Huel has launched its new High Protein Ramen range exclusively in Tesco stores across the UK, using Greiner Packaging’s K3 solution, which combines a plastics cup with a separable cardboard wrap.
The K3 format uses the cardboard wrap to provide stability to the cup, allowing thinner walls than standard printed plastics cups. Greiner Packaging said this reduces the amount of plastics used in the overall pack.
The cardboard wrap also provides thermal insulation, so consumers can prepare and eat the hot ramen directly from the pack.
Vibrant colours and tear tab
For the Huel range, the cardboard wrap features vibrant colours, high-quality printing and UV spot varnish. It also provides additional space for product information and preparation instructions.
A tear tab is incorporated into the wrap to help consumers separate the cardboard from the plastics cup after use. Disposal instructions printed on the cardboard provide guidance on separating the two components for waste sorting.
Donna Cullen, sales manager at Greiner Packaging, said: “Huel wanted packaging that reflected the boldness of its new product.
“Together, we created a solution that delivers premium shelf impact, functionality and a packaging design that supports correct disposal after consumption, helping Huel make a strong first impression in an exciting new category.”
‘Premium shelf impact’
Tim Urch, senior marketing manager at Huel, said: “We chose Greiner Packaging’s K3 packaging because it offers the perfect combination of premium shelf impact and consumer convenience.
“The high-quality finish helps our noodle range stand out in-store, while the cardboard wrap provides added insulation, making hot meals more comfortable to handle and enjoy.
“As a result, K3 is the perfect packaging fit for our convenient, nutritionally complete meal concept. Launching exclusively into Tesco is just the beginning, and we have ambitious plans for the range.”
Huel acquired by Danone
Huel became part of Danone earlier this month after the French food and nutrition group completed its acquisition of the business on 4 September.
Danone is also among the companies supporting the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s 2030 Plastics Agenda for Business, which aims to accelerate the shift towards a circular economy and reduce plastics waste.
The initiative calls for collective action on policy, innovation and changes at company level.
