Klöckner Pentaplast rolls out heat-retaining recyclable pizza packaging

Klöckner Pentaplast (KP) has launched a recyclable packaging solution that aims to keep pizza hotter for longer.

Resembling expanded polystyrene, which is banned for food container use in the UK and EU, KP Infinity Tavola uses a fully recyclable expanded PP (EPP) structure to retain heat.

Compared with traditional alternatives, such as cardboard packaging, the lightweight box reportedly keeps pizzas up to 7.3°C hotter after five minutes and remains warmer after an hour.

Quick-service restaurants

The packaging, which is available in a 12-inch format, will launch in the UK and selected European markets from September 2026.

It is geared towards quick-service restaurants, pizzerias, and delivery-led brands, and features two interlocking parts. It is also said to be fully recyclable within appropriate PP collection and recycling streams.

Unlike cardboard pizza boxes, it does not absorb oil or allow cheese to stick to the pack, helping avoid food contamination that can complicate paper-based recycling, KP said.

The innovation was designed to meet the needs of foodservice operators who are under pressure to deliver food quickly, maintain quality during transportation, and create a better customer experience.

‘Versatile design’

“KP Infinity Tavola brings those needs together in one versatile design,” Austin Schwarz, sales director, UK&I at KP explained. “It arrives flat, needs no assembly and provides operators with flexibility across multiple service occasions.

“Early trials showed that operators immediately recognised the space and time-saving potential and how KP Infinity Tavola helps pizzas stay hotter for longer during transportation. Its clean exterior and contemporary appearance also help premium operators create a more distinctive experience, whether customers dine in, collect or order for delivery.”

In April, KP unveiled its largest and most rigid tray to date under the company’s Hotpacs range. Manufactured in the UK from EPP, the HP3 is designed for larger food-to-go portions.
