Panesar Foods expands production with new shrink wrapping lines

Panesar Foods has installed new automated shrink wrapping equipment from Yorkshire Packaging Systems (YPS) as it expands production at its facility in the West Midlands, UK.

The manufacturer produces spices and sauces for a broad customer base, and manufactures approximately 12,000 tonnes of product per year across more than 750 stock keeping units (SKUs).

The new equipment includes inline and side-feed sleeve sealers, which are being used to wrap trays of curry sauce jars.

Panesar Foods operates a high-mix production environment with frequent SKU changes, making fast and straightforward changeovers an important consideration when selecting the equipment.

In-house engineering

The new shrink wrapping lines allow operators to change between different product formats and tray sizes.

Panesar Foods already operates YPS equipment at the site and has used the supplier’s machinery before. The company also identified YPS’s in-house engineering capability as a factor in placing the repeat order.

Installation was carried out by YPS engineers and involved integrating the new equipment with existing production lines.

Stephen Ansell, engineering manager at Panesar Foods, said: “We already had YPS lines on site and had found them extremely reliable.

“The machines deliver the fast changeovers we need, and YPS’s in-house engineering support – from installation through to training and ongoing service – made them the natural choice for this next stage of growth.”
