Amcor and Ocean Potion have collaborated on a new laminate tube for Ocean Potion’s Mineral Kids SPF 30 Sunscreen Lotion.
The 3.4oz (96.6ml) tube was developed for a mineral-based zinc oxide sunscreen formulated for children.
Ocean Potion had worked with Amcor on laminate tubes for almost a decade before approaching the packaging producer to develop a new design for the product line extension.
The design features a reflective blue vignette across the lower part of the tube, intended to evoke sunlight reflecting from ocean waves. A yellow cap matches the Ocean Potion logo.
Flexographic printing
The companies used multiple layers of flexographic printing to create a ripple texture within the blue design. All 12 stations on the printing press contributed to the final appearance.
The design also achieves uninterrupted graphics around the full circumference of the tube, despite the challenges associated with forming tubes containing metallic foil and inks. A clear overlaminate was applied to protect the printed inks.
