A UK supermarket chain has switched from a mixed, nylon laminate to a recyclable PE mono-laminate for its grated cheese, reducing the amount of plastics in its packs.
Supplied by converter Coveris, the MonoFlexBE pouches use 1g less plastics per pack, while matching current shelf-life and functional performance.
Available across 250g packs of grated mature and mild cheddar, and grated mozzarella, the lightweight pouches offer a total plastics weight saving of around 7 tonnes per annum, claims Coveris, while 41 tonnes of plastics are now easily recyclable nationally through retailer front-of-store plastics film collections.
Mark Robinson, Coveris’ UK Flexibles technical director, said: “The packs deliver real sustainable innovation with no downsides to freshness or performance for a technically challenging, extended shelf-life product.”
