Packaging systems provider SIG has expanded its range of aseptic carton filling machines with two new models designed to increase output while supporting multiple pack sizes and formats.
The SIG Neo XSlim 32 Aseptic is designed for single serve cartons and can fill up to 32,000 SIG XSlimBloc cartons per hour across nine pack sizes.
The SIG Neo Midi 15 Aseptic is designed for multi-serve cartons and can fill up to 15,000 SIG MidiBloc or SIG MidiFit cartons per hour, with three pack sizes available for each format.
SIG said the machines increase total output and output per square metre by one-third compared with its standard filling machines for the relevant formats, while retaining the same footprint.
Sleeve-based carton technology
Both machines use SIG’s sleeve-based carton technology and open sleeve filling process. Operators can change between pack sizes and, in the case of the Midi machine, formats in less than 15 minutes without changing machine parts.
The XSlim 32 Aseptic can handle nine single serve pack sizes, while the Midi 15 Aseptic can run both the MidiBloc and MidiFit formats, each in three multi serve pack sizes.
The shorter changeover times are intended to reduce downtime and allow producers to respond more quickly to changes in demand, according to SIG.
Both machines have a stated waste rate of less than 0.5 per cent and include digital operating features. SIG also said they offer lower total filling costs than its standard filling machines for the relevant formats.
The machines include the SIG Neo human-machine interface, which is designed to provide operators with performance information, and SIG Neo Shield, which provides sterile airflow and shielding during bottom sealing and pre-folding.
‘The physical limits’
SIG said the Neo Shield system can remove up to 95 per cent of particles from the air.
Christoph Wegener, chief markets officer at SIG, explained: “Many food and beverage producers have reached the physical limits of their existing plants. SIG Neo filling machines deliver highest output per square metre in the industry and therefore add capacity to our customer’s factories and not buildings.
Gavin Steiner, chief technology officer at SIG, added: “The latest additions to our SIG Neo platform demonstrate how innovation can translate directly into operational value.
“By combining speed, flexibility, advanced digital capabilities and aseptic excellence, we have created filling solutions that not only increase productivity but also simplify day-to-day operations.”
