PakTech: Why recycled-content packaging is moving from ambition to reality

The push for more sustainable packaging is moving beyond long-term targets, with companies increasingly looking for solutions that can deliver higher recycled content while maintaining performance.

In an exclusive interview with Eco-plastics in Packaging, Keenan Hoar Perez, international sales manager at PakTech, discusses how the changing packaging landscape is influencing product development, from increasing recycled content requirements to the need for designs that support circularity. PakTech designs and manufactures multipack solutions using recycled materials and switched from virgin material to 100 per cent post consumer recycled content in 2012.

That experience has shaped the company’s approach as brand owners respond to new sustainability expectations and regulatory requirements. Hoar discusses the different approaches being taken in Europe and the US, as well as the challenges of balancing environmental goals with packaging performance.

He also addresses misconceptions around plastics packaging, the role of mono material design and why recycled content and material reduction are expected to become increasingly important in future packaging development.
