Global packaging and recycling specialist Alpla Group has ploughed €30 million ($34.4m) into two new sites in Turkey.
Located in İzmir and Adana, the new plants opened earlier this week and will supply the beverage, food and dairy, home care and personal care sectors, the company said.
The 50,000 sq m facility in Izmir produces PET preforms, closures, and HDPE and PET bottles and will primarily serve customers in the Aegean region and western Turkey.
The smaller 20,000 sq m Adana facility focuses on PET preforms, as well as HDPE and PP packaging solutions, and will supply markets in the Mediterranean region and south-eastern Turkey.
Production network
Alpla said the new additions would ‘significantly increase nationwide capacity’ and complement the company’s production network in the country – the firm has been present in the country since 1992 and also operates plants in Kocaeli, Ankara and Konya.
“Turkey combines industrial strength, a dynamic consumer goods industry and significant future potential,” said Philipp Lehner, Alpla Group chief executive.
“With these new facilities, we are creating the conditions to support our customers even more effectively and continue growing alongside them as a reliable partner.”
Javier Delgado, Alpla’s regional managing director for AMET (Africa, Middle East and Turkey) added: “Turkey plays a key role in our regional strategy. “We are now able to cover a broader geographical area and further strengthen our position as a system provider. Over the coming years, we intend to continue expanding our activities step by step.”
Expansion
Earlier this year, Alpla Group opened a public plastics bottle collection point in Mexico City, in a bid to help strengthen recycling infrastructure in the country.
It also unveiled its first base plant in the Philippines, heralding a major step in its expansion across the Asia-Pacific region.
Alpla employs approximately 25,500 employees at 206 locations in 45 countries. The company produces customised packaging systems, bottles, closures, and injection-moulded parts used in applications spanning food and beverages, cosmetics and personal care products, household cleaners, detergents and cleaning agents, pharmaceuticals, and motor oil and lubricants.
Recycling plants for PET and HDPE are operated by Alpla in Austria, Germany, Poland, Netherlands, Mexico, Italy, Spain, South Africa, Romania, Thailand and Brazil.
