Amcor to invest $44.55m in Iowa packaging facility

Amcor is to invest $44.55 million in its flexible packaging facility in Centerville, Iowa, to increase production capacity for advanced, multilayer packaging films.

The Centerville facility is currently operating at full capacity, prompting the investment in additional machinery and equipment, according to the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA).

The project is expected to create 24 jobs, including 20 positions qualifying for an hourly wage of $22.32.

New capital investment

The IEDA board has awarded Amcor $2m in tax credits through its Business Incentives for Growth programme.

The Centerville project was among six manufacturing projects approved by the board on 18 September. Collectively, the six projects are expected to generate nearly $246.5m in new capital investment and 346 jobs in Iowa.

Amcor Flexibles North America’s Centerville facility produces flexible packaging including pouches, films, bags, sachets and wraps for food, beverage, healthcare, pharmaceutical, personal care, home care and pet care applications.

The investment comes as Amcor continues to integrate Berry Global following its acquisition last year. In its latest financial results, Amcor reported higher sales and volumes across its flexible and rigid packaging businesses.
