Icertech owner targets growth after ice pack machine grant

Welsh-based packaging merchant Lyan Packaging Supplies is to install an ice pack machine at its chilled packaging plant as part of plans to grow production by 150 per cent in five years.

The Wrexham company, which trades as Icertech, believes the new bespoke Multi-Pocket Water Ice Pack production machine will increase productivity alone by up to 40 per cent.

It will also reportedly support plans to grow annual production from 12 million units in 2025 to 30 million units within five years, help double turnover and create 10 additional jobs over the same period.

The move follows the North Wales Investment Zone SME Grant Programme awarding the manufacturer funding to support the design, manufacture and installation of the machine.

Productivity and digitalisation projects

The project is said to build on a wider programme of innovation, including an Innovate UK Knowledge Transfer Partnership focused on sustainability, productivity improvements supported through the Wrexham Business Grant, and digitalisation projects delivered through the Wrexham Accelerating Decarbonisation and Productivity through Training and Skills (ADAPTS) programme.

Established in 1988, Lyan Packaging Supplies operates as a packaging merchant.

Its Icertech division specialises in temperature-controlled packaging for the food, drink and pharmaceutical sectors.

Since introducing automated production in 2015, the company said it had expanded significantly, with manufacturing now accounting for around half of the division’s turnover. It created six new full-time jobs in 2025.

‘Never been a better time’

“Having traded as a business since 1988, it has never been a better time to be based in Wrexham,” said Adam Jones, managing director of Lyan Packaging Supplies.

“The support we are receiving as a result of the investment zone, and the wider opportunities to utilise local expertise, have been fantastic.”

Wrexham councillor Nigel Williams, lead member for economy, business and tourism said: “It was a pleasure to visit Lyan Packaging and have a tour of its factory.

“It was great to see how the company has gone from strength to strength over the last few years with sustainable growth and their increase in staff.

“With the help of funding from the investment zone, that growth will continue into the future, with the purchase of the new machine increasing productivity and further increasing the need for additional staff. I wish them every success for the future.”
