Kebo, the Swiss injection mould manufacturer for the medical, lab and thin-wall packaging industries, has merged with French firm Plastisud, which produces high-precision, multi-cavity injection moulds for the plastics industry.
Under the terms of the agreement, signed on 22 June, the two companies will operate under the umbrella of the Plastisud Group, which is based in Castelnaudary, France.
Swiss-based Kebo, which was founded in 1979, said the merger would enable more efficient use of capacities to ‘better serve rising customer demand, particularly in the rapidly growing diabetes and obesity market’.
It will continue to operate as an independent company within the Plastisud Group from its Neuhausen am Rheinfall location and serve as the centre of excellence for applications in the medical/pharmaceutical and laboratory sectors.
The merger brings together almost 300 employees.
Complex plastics parts
Plastisud’s 200-strong workforce develops and manufactures high-precision multi-cavity injection moulding moulds for the mass production of complex plastics parts in the packaging, closures, and medical sectors.
The company, which was established in 1964, says it offers customised solutions and claims to support its customers throughout the entire product lifecycle.
“Kebo is an ideal fit for the Plastisud Group,” said Laurent Buzzo, president and chief executive of Plastisud.
“This strategic alignment opens up very attractive opportunities for us in the medical and pharmaceutical sectors – a business that complements our existing product and customer portfolio very well.”
Gerold Keller, current co-owner of Kebo added: “In Plastisud, we have found a partner for our family-owned company that shares our DNA and has the same high standards for quality and customer service.
“With this long-term succession plan, we are confident that Kebo will be able to further strengthen its strong position in the field of drug delivery devices.”
Earlier this year, Chester Medical Solutions installed a new £2 million ($2.7m) blister packing line at its Wirral facility in England, expanding its capacity for high-volume pharmaceutical and nutraceutical production.
