A French machine manufacturer is planning to shake up the blow moulding sector with a new system that can produce bottles and containers directly from rolled sheet.
Ublo, based in the Loire-Atlantique region, claims to have developed a machine that can form sheet into tubes, which can then be blow moulded into a multitude of packaging shapes and sizes.
In this exclusive interview, filmed at the biennial Society of Plastics Engineers European Thermoforming Conference in Strasbourg earlier this month, Ublo’s Christophe Bouvier tells Eco-plastics in Packaging how the process can offer logistical benefits by eliminating several costly stages of the production process, while at the same time enabling more light-weighting than equivalent packaging made through the conventional blow moulding process.
Couvier goes on to talk about the growth aspirations of Ublo, and the company’s plan to showcase the new system at Interpack in May. The machine will be set up to produce 10,000 pouches or pods an hour at the Düsseldorf show.
