Ingenia Polymers has installed a seven-layer blown film lab line at its expanded Brantford Innovation Centre in Ontario, Canada.
The system, supplied by Macro Engineering & Technology, comprises seven 1.25-inch extruders and can produce film widths of up to 500mm. It also includes a 24-inch-wide surface winder capable of producing rolls of up to 12 inches in diameter.
Ingenia will use the lab-scale equipment to develop, evaluate, and optimise multilayer film structures, giving the company additional capacity for material trials and product development.
40th anniversary event
The installation was highlighted during an event marking the expansion of the Brantford Innovation Centre and Ingenia’s 40th anniversary. The event brought together representatives from the company, Macro Engineering and several Canadian universities.
Among those attending were Ingenia chief technology officer Zach Charlton, McMaster University Professor John Vlachopoulos, University of Waterloo Professor Costas Tzoganakis, Macro vice-president of technology Karen Xiao, and Western University Professor Andrew Hrymak.
The new lab line adds to the companies’ longstanding relationship and provides Ingenia with a dedicated system for work on multilayer film structures at laboratory scale.
