Engel subsidiary TMA Automation eyes growth in Poland

TMA Automation, a subsidiary of injection moulding machinery maker Engel, has opened a new headquarters and a larger production facility in Gdańsk, Poland, as its Austrian owner prepares to scale up the business.

The firm, which specialises in in-mould labelling, side-entry robots, and assembly and inspection automation, previously rented premises at a technology park 20km away in Gdynia.

TMA Automation founder and managing director Marek Łangowski told Eco-plastics in Packaging that the new 1,500 sq m production hall would bring assembly and project execution closer together and help the business complete “turnkey projects” and “grow rapidly”.

The new complex also features 900 sq m of office space and is in a centralised location, 500m from the main passenger terminal at Gdańsk Airport, which makes it easier for its international customers to visit and “stay nearby our HQ”, Łangowski, added.

Importance of the Polish market

The company, which was bought by Engel in 2022 and employs 40 people, said the Polish and European markets played a central role in its operations.

However, it also intends to execute more international automation projects in the future.

“The new site gives us the conditions we need to implement comprehensive automation projects under significantly improved circumstances and to further develop our organisation,” said Piotr Orlikowski, also company founder and managing director of TMA Automation.

“In addition, it offers sufficient reserve capacity for further growth.”

Stefan Engleder, Engel Group chief executive, added: “With TMA Automation, we are strengthening our expertise in important fields of application and expanding our customer proximity in Poland and eastern Europe.

Further integration with Engel

“The new site in Gdańsk creates the conditions needed to integrate TMA even more strongly into the Engel Group’s international automation projects.”

In 2025, Engel acquired Trexel, a Massachusetts-based company known for developing and commercialising the MuCell microcellular foaming process.

In the same year, the company opened a new production facility in Querétaro, Mexico.

The 200,000 sq ft plant manufactures two lines of injection moulding machines: the fully-electric E-mac series and the Wintec T-win, a two-platen hydraulic machine.
