An Indian start-up has turned to artificial intelligence (AI) to help manufacturers reduce energy costs and unlock productivity within the plastics packaging sector.
Zolnoi is a plug-and-play AI-based platform that can offer benefits across energy, production, and maintenance within a manufacturing environment.
In this exclusive interview, filmed at Plastindia earlier this year, company founder and chief technical officer Sivam Pillai tells Eco-plastics in Packaging that globally, around $500 billion worth of energy is wasted in the manufacturing sector every year.
This wastage, he explains, is primarily due to bad operations and bad maintenance in the machines.
Proprietary AI-based system
Primarily working within the plastics segment – where 40 per cent of production cost is energy usage – Pillai says Zolnoi is a proprietary AI-based system built on five-plus years of research.
Combining AI data with physics-based models, the platform is considered to be highly accurate, and scalable and extendable to different kinds of machines.
Meanwhile, in this exclusive video with Eco-plastics in Packaging at Interpack, R-Cycle – the GS1-based open traceability standard for packaging – explains how its AI-trained platform can assist converters and packaging manufacturers in preparing for the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation.
