Mainetti, a global supplier of packaging and retail solutions, has launched a flexible packaging range covering nine material options for retail and apparel applications.
The M-Film portfolio includes recyclable plastics, bio-based materials, Forest Stewardship Council-certified paper and water-soluble film. The company said the range is intended to address different packaging requirements and material preferences among retailers and brands.
One of the materials, M-Film Bio-Based, uses bio-based PE made from renewable biomass such as sugarcane. Mainetti said it is designed to reduce reliance on fossil-based feedstocks and has performance comparable with conventional PE.
Water-soluble film
M-Film Dissolve is a water-soluble film based on polyvinyl alcohol. Mainetti said the material is resistant to tearing and puncturing and dissolves in water or composting systems without leaving microplastics.
The M-Film Recycled option is a LDPE film containing up to 100 per cent recycled polymer. Mainetti said it provides an alternative to virgin materials while retaining a high level of transparency. Production of the M-Film range takes place across 14 Mainetti facilities.
Another option, M-Film Pulp, is made from FSC-certified wood pulp. Mainetti describes it as a non-fossil fuel-based material for retail applications and said it is compostable.
‘Meet their ambitions’
Jeffrey Hsu, Mainetti’s chief product and commercial officer, said: “Sustainability means something different to every retailer and brand we work with.
“For some, it means moving away from fossil-based materials entirely or adopting more compostable solutions. For others, it’s about partnering with a packaging provider that can scale their offering to meet their ambitions.
“With M-Film, we’ve built a portfolio flexible enough to meet brands wherever their sustainability priorities sit.”
The launch follows Mainetti’s expansion of its paper hanging solutions earlier this year through additional manufacturing capacity in Asia.
