European packaging and label manufacturer Ellerhold plans to optimise its operational efficiency and product quality following the purchase of a Comexi Offset CI Evolution hybrid printing press.
According to Comexi, the printing press provides a solvent-free operation, aligning it with global sustainability goals by significantly reducing volatile organic compounds and carbon dioxide emissions.
It combines offset and flexographic printing methods with an electron beam (EB) curing system.
The Offset CI Evolution is equipped with features that include robotic sleeve changeovers and automated colour presetting for quick adjustments and high automation.
These, it claimed, result in high-quality print quality and colour consistency, with flexographic units for applying high-opacity whites and EB coatings, enhancing protection against scratches, heat, and chemicals on various substrates.
Perfect ink curing
The EB curing system consumes less energy, ensures perfect ink curing at high speeds, and does not dry in the press, minimising cleaning and changeover times, said the manufacturer.
The use of recyclable lithographic aluminium plates facilitates printing on demand, akin to digital printing but with higher efficiency due to faster speeds and wider web capabilities.
Ellerhold said the purchase reflects a broader industry trend towards more sustainable printing practices.
Felip Ferrer, technical sales director for the offset printing division at Comexi, said: “This press is ideal for those seeking sustainability alongside efficiency.
It allows for high-quality printing of complex designs, supports multiple stock-keeping units in one run, and reduces both cost and waste.”
