Hub Packaging powered by 100 per cent renewable energy after 3T link-up

Northern Ireland-based packaging supplier Hub Packaging has announced a partnership with renewable energy provider 3T Power that has enabled its facilities to be powered by 100 per cent locally generated renewable electricity.

Newry-based Hub Packaging, which provides packaging solutions for the food, beverage, pharmaceutical, healthcare, industrial, and retail sectors across the UK and Ireland, described the decision as a ‘milestone’ in its journey towards net-zero.

The transition also supported the company’s long-term objectives to deliver a reduction in its Scope 2 emissions while maintaining the reliable energy supply required for its operations, it said.

Hub Packaging’s facilities, including warehouse, offices and electric vehicle charging infrastructure, are now said to be powered entirely by renewable electricity.

“Two critical factors compelled Hub Packaging to choose 3T Power as our next energy partner,” said Julian Coldrick, the company’s director of sustainability.

Zero Scope 2 emissions

“Firstly, that it was 100 per cent renewable energy, and secondly, their commitment to providing renewable energy on a large scale within Northern Ireland. Making the switch to 3T Power reduced our Scope 2 emissions to zero.”

The collaboration forms part of Hub Packaging’s wider plans to reduce operational emissions, while maintaining the production reliability and performance ‘our customers expect’, the company said.

“Forward-thinking businesses like Hub Packaging are an essential part of our local economy, and they play a vital role in shaping a sustainable future,” said John-Francis Collins, sales manager at 3T Power.

“By moving their electricity supply to 100 per cent renewable energy, they are proving that industry leaders don’t have to compromise on efficient operations to protect the environment.

“We are proud to partner with a local business that shares our passion for net-zero progress and our commitment to creating a greener future for Northern Ireland.”
