Berry Circular Polymers has signed a five-year distribution agreement with Bretts Transport, giving the plastics recycler access to dedicated vehicles and trailers for its UK operations.
Berry, one of the country’s largest recyclers, will initially use ten curtainsider trailers and five dedicated vehicles, with the number of vehicles expected to double to ten later this year.
Bretts will collect plastics scrap and waste from Berry’s suppliers across the UK and deliver it to Berry’s recycling facility in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, where the plastics are reprocessed into polymers suitable for a range of packaging products.
The Leamington Spa plant opened in early 2023 and is yet to reach full capacity. The deal with Cambridgeshire-based Brett’s takes account of Berry’s forecast that volumes will significantly increase over the next six months.
“My primary responsibility involves securing a consistent daily supply of feedstock for the factory’s operations and since we produce our goods on-site, the regular and timely delivery of raw materials is therefore crucial,” said Andrew Barnes, transport logistics manager at Berry Circular Polymers. “Without their collaborative assistance, operations would effectively come to a standstill.”
Simon Brett, managing director at Bretts Transport, added: “As a business, they’re a hugely exciting brand with a bright future ahead, so once we initially met with them to discuss overtaking their distribution contract we felt that by leveraging our capabilities and experience in the market, we would fast become a valuable asset for the company.
